Athletics Program

Mission: St. Joseph School provides an athletic program where all students have the opportunity to learn, play and have fun while promoting positive self-esteem, sportsmanship and Christian behavior.

The advancement of the Gospel mission of Catholic education is the best reason for athletics programs. St. Joseph Catholic School's (SJCS) Athletic Program is an integral part of our education programs and is considered one dimension of its total youth ministry. The athletic program provides opportunities for learning experiences that are difficult to duplicate in other school activities.

SJCS Athletic Program includes the following opportunities for students:
    Basketball - girls and boys grades 4 - 8
    Volleyball - girls grades 4 - 8
    *Soccer - girls and boys grades 3 - 6
    *Softball - girls grades 3 - 6
    *Baseball - boys grades 3 - 6
*It is the first year SJCS has participated in these sports. Teams are made up of SJCS students and games are played with the Waconia Community Education League. Based on participation we are expecting to continue to offer these sports.

The objectives of the program are:

  • To provide opportunity for athletic competition.
  • To be inclusive of all student athletes
  • To help students realize that participation in athletics is a privilage with accompanying responsibilities.
  • To provide activities that help create and promote school unity through learning, self-discipline, loyalty, team play, pride in the organization, respect of the rights of others, and the will to do one's best.
  • To help student athletes learn habits of health, conditioning and safety.
  • To have fun and enjoy sports
