Pre-Kindergarten Enrollment Application Pre-K Handbook
Pre-K Development in a Christian Environment St. Joseph Catholic School has a clearly articulated Mission and Philosophy and out of that philosophy flows the basis for our Pre-Kindergarten Program.
Mission St. Joseph School works with parents to help each 3-5 year old child develop spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially in a loving, Christian environment. The program provides opportunities for learning and prepares each child for his/her education in a Catholic school.
Curriculum The St. Joseph Pre-Kindergarten program focuses on the developmental needs of each individual child in the areas of: faith formation, language development, physical education, social studies, math, technology, music, science, and art. Emphasis is also placed on social and character-building skills. Developmentally appropriate activities help each child form and enhance skills. An environment rich with social experiences allows children to learn from teachers and peers through the manipulation of materials and play.
Our Preschool Program fosters the development of the whole child in a caring, Christian atmosphere. It provides a variety of experiences which allows the child to touch, see, hear and taste things in their environment. We use everyday experiences and materials as learning resources and we recognize play as a child's method of learning about the world. Our goal is to develop feelings of self-worth as well as a spirit of group cooperation. With a variety of games, music, art and craft activities, we introduce the alphabet, numbers, shapes and colors.
Our Preschool Program encourages each child's emotional, social, physical, intellectual and creative development.
OUR GOALS ARE:
- EMOTIONAL -- To provide an environment that is safe, nurturing and one in which all children feel valued and accepted. To provide an environment that supports the development of an, "I can do it myself!" attitude in children.
SOCIAL -- To help children develop the skills needed to play with other children and to assist children to develop the skills to solve problems and resolve conflicts.
COGNITIVE -- To provide an environment that promotes an enthusiasm about learning and to provide opportunities for children to develop communication and logical thinking skills.
PHYSICAL -- To provide opportunities for children to develop both fine motor and gross motor skills and eye-hand coordination. To provide opportunities for children to be challenged physically as well as to develop an awareness of safety.
CREATIVE -- To provide many experiences that encourage the development of creativity, curiosity and imagination.
